In Fall 1948, publisher ACG started the very first regularly published horror comic book...a good two years before EC kicked off their horror titles. And many or most of these stories were written by the legendary Richard Hughes, whose fine creativity kept this title rolling for a record twenty years, until 1968! Seminal stories of witches and werewolves, ghosts and haunted castles were the early staple here, but usually with fun twists unique to Hughes' exceptional writing skills. By issue #5 we are seeing "The Spirit of Frankenstein," "The Blonde Witch of the Swamp," "The Spectral Singer," and "The Ghostly Crew"--remember, these were nice thick 52-page issues with five stories in each issue.
This is an entirely separate new series from the Dark Horse collections--those collect four issues each book--these collect five issues. Published by PS Art Books in England, this series also includes special introductions by the publisher and a new "re-imagined" painting of the #2 cover by artist Glenn Chadbourne plus an nice long, illustrated introduction by Chadbourne that places AITU with other early 1950s comics like Mystery in Space.
