- Full Description
More fine early horror and supernatural stories that date back to the very beginnings of EC's own horror titles. Stories include "Portrait Without a Soul," "Journey Into Madness," "The Ghost Writer," "Witch's Wrath," "Vampire Valley," "The Voice of Death," "When Time Turned Back," etc. Richard Hughes and his staff of writers were turning out fun tales that didn't depend on grisly blood and guts, but instead were solidly plotted and are still readable today.
Ken Bald's fine covers are a highlight here, quintessential images of beautiful ladies in the clutches of flying vampires, swamp monsters, ghouls and demons. And the artwork, though not the quality seen from EC or Harvey, was still quite adequate with the occasional stand-out piece. Also here are some of the earliest letters pages from the pre-code era, where fans would vote for their favorite stories and the editor, probably Hughes, would talk about the tales in each issue.
Foreword by Malcolm Poynter.
