Alan Moore was the braintrust behind America's Best Comics: Tom Strong, Top10, Promethea, and the anthology Tomorrow Stories. The ABC line paired Moore with the finest artists in comics. This volume presents a beautiful overview of the ABC line, including complete stories from Promethea #10 by Williams (Eisner Award-winner for best issue of the year) and Top 10 #7 by Gene Ha, and five Jonni Future stories by the terrific Arthur Adams--my favorite work here.
J.H. Williams III is also well represented, the artist that came to notice also for his superb work on Promethea and for Sandman. Plus a fine selection of shorter stories featuring Tom Strong, Jack B. Quick, Splash Brannigan, and Greyshirt. There is also a cover gallery. Hilary Barta's work reminds us of Wood's humor for the first Mad Comics, it's just amazing.
This is certainly an exceptional collection, and I can't find enough words to talk about how good every contributor is. I haven't even gotten to Kevin Nowlan's work from Tomorrow Stories, and Jerry Ordway's work from Tom Strong's Terrific Tales. There's even some work by Rick Veitch and Mister X's Paul Rivoche.
But for me, as beautiful as Wiliam's work is, it's Arthur Adams that stands out here. Jonni Future is the quintessential sexy space girl, in skin-tight outfits and surrounded by great monsters as well as other lovely ladies. Adams is every bit as good in his black and white work here as Dave Stevens or Frank Cho is on their color work--this is comics good girl art at its best.
A massive collection, with over 200 pages all scanned direct from the original artwork. Delicious!
Plus a stunning gallery section. The best stories by the best artists in the best format! There is also a version with a cover by Chris Sprouse, but we are only offering this edition with the J.H. Williams cover, which I prefer anyway.
