- Full Description
Archie Andrews and the gang get serious in a tale set in Riverdale on the eve and during World War II. First it's everyone's high school graduation! Then that last summer, a moment of peace before the war in Europe bears down, and Pearl Harbor is bombed. For Archie, Reggie and Moose, it‘s enlistment and off to war in Europe! Spoiler alert--Veronica is the snooty rich girl, at least to start, and it's Betty that has won Archie's heart. How about that! Includes 22 pages of variant covers by a plethora of talent and a six-page interview with Waid and Augustyn. Very, very different but I liked it.
An excellent look at how the war affected small town America--in this case, how it affects all the Riverdale characters we've known all these years —but like you have never before seen them--moody, frustrated, angry, confused...and ultimately signing up to fight for the American Dream. Even Betty!
Includes variant covers by Francesco Francavilla, Dave Johnson, Aaron Lopresti, Dan Parent, Audry Mok, Marguerite Sauvage, Jerry Ordway and others.
Written by comics legend Mark Waid (Archie, Captain America) with longtime collaborators co-writer Brian Augustyn (The Flash, JLA) and artist Peter Krause (Superman), Archie 1941 finds Riverdale dealing with the impact of the impending conflict on the small town and in the personal lives of Archie, Betty, Veronica, Jughead, and Reggie.
The story will allow fans a chance to see the real-world consequences and drama of the war through the eyes of some familiar faces, but with the humor, heart, milkshakes, and dates that come with any Riverdale tale.
