- Full Description
The third, last, and most splendiferously accomplished volume of R. Crumb’s Art & Beauty series. Three years in the making, 44 pages of almost exclusively female images drawn from extemporaneous sightings and photos (selfies!) and displaying the artist’s obsession with large rumps and the infamous peanut-shaped curve. Includes running ruminations by the artist--all hand-lettered, of course--as well as guest ruminations by George Grosz, William de Kooning, and others. Minor nudity.
Crumb is endlessly fascinated by the female figure--well, most guys are--but in this case it's the amply rounded figure he covets. Fine big legs, large rumps, strong arms, and powerful thighs and big busts. No slender girls allowed, these are large, powerful, take-charge women! He draws from life, he redraws from photos found in old magazines, he captures wife Aline and other women he knows. Like the rare old photo and nudist magazines he's emulating, this is an examination of the female figure Crumb-style. Fun.
