- Full Description
32 well-known Japanese illustrators and animators show you their absolutely amazing worlds. Beautiful castles, islands floating in the air, pirate ships sailing through the clouds, retro-futuristic inventions, deserted architectural spaces, towns that have sunk under the ocean, an enchanted forest and a space locomotive.… The work here is just gorgeous, packed with incredible detail and stunningly colored. From work done for films, CD covers, and some pieces done especially for this. We really like this.
This is a companion title to Everyday Scenes from Parallel Worlds series.
Featuring only a few angels, dragons, young ladies and Japanese girls, and a hero or two, but they are usually a tiny part of the image. Our attention is all on the riveting background here, futuristic imagined lands of flora and fauna, and amazing human habitats, starships, retro flying machines, inner cities.
All these names are new to us, but probably just because they are buried in the credits of foreign animation films. But some standout illustrators we've discovered here include Yo Shimizu whose pieces include a wonderful Harry Potterish "A Street Steeping in Mystery," "Sky Home" with a virtual flying castle, "Village in the Forest," "Sending off Ceremony" which is a cross between War of the Worlds, World War Two bombers, and the steam-punk city of Hugo. And his "Camping Out" features a desolated city, with a Moebius-like robot and a young girl on the outskirts by a twilight fire. And that's just ONE of the featured artists here.
Also we find fine work by Reishin, Yish, who makes incredible use of light and watercolor effects, Yu Fujiki, Fuzichoco, Nocras, Denki, Makoto Shiki doing a golden Zepplin in a cloud-filled dome, and a panoramic view of a surreal island kingdom below sea level but not underwater! Fujihiko Sawai drawing ethereal worlds among crystal mountains and honeycombed caves, And much, much more.
Handsome oblong format with cover flaps and a dust jacket illustration that not only wraps around the cover but extends to both flaps.
