The third and final volume in this impressive series. This includes all his work from Zap Comix #12 through #15; stories published in the horror anthology Taboo; the three appearances of his outrageous character Meadows from Weirdo; illustrations for Grimm and Andersen fairy tales; as well as book jackets and album covers. Plus, dozens of privately commissioned paintings with his best-known characters. And finally, the inside story of his outrageous partying life and his tragic accident in 2008 that ended his career.

All this is told through narration by his closest friends, including the late artist Spain, Victor Moscoso, Robert Crumb, Robert Williams -- the zap crew themselves. Here is artwork for the Seven Deadly Sins (Just Say Yes!) and inner landscapes peopled with pirates, ogres, leprechauns, Cyclops, the Baby Jesus, and his favorite players, Captain Pissgums, Star-Eyed Stella, and the Checkered Demon. It also includes an even score of remarkably rendered paintings, both unpublished and virtually unseen, that he created between the 2006 publication of The Art of S. Clay Wilson and The Night the Lights Went Out in 2008, when Wilson’s career spiraled out of control. Full-color illustrations throughout.

Lots of full color, lots of anecdotes and great stories of this bad boy of the underground scene. Moscoso, Williams and others talk about Wilson's drinking, which was slowly grinding him down and hiding his sharp mind. Direct quotes from them describe his erratic behavior and his refusal to even try and get on the wagon and regain his health.

"The Night the Lights Went Out" finally fully details his evening of carousing that preceeded either a fall, or multiple falls, or an assault, that left Wilson with head trauma from which he has never recovered. It's poignant, all told by his friends, his wife Lorraine, etc. Explicit adult material.
