- Full Description
From the Golden Age of Pen & Ink illustration, 1890-1922. Packed with gorgeous b&w art, featuring the next installment of Herbert Railton's The Haunted House, the earliest known work of Frank C. Papé (1902), all the art from an 1897 L'Image article on Daniel Vierge, and an extended section on Will Crawford.
Also includes work by Arthur Rackham, Howard Pyle, Carlos Schwabe, F.S. Church, Frank VerBeck, Harry Rountree and Gustave Doré. Superb reproduction throughout, carefully restored by editor Jim Vadeboncoeur to be even better than the original appearance, in many cases. These are all works from obscure sources, early magazines and books, most of which have not ever before been collected.
Handsome squarebound softcover, oversized at 9"x12", and much larger than the full color ImageS at 106 pages, it's nearly three times the size of a regular issue, making this much more of a book than a magazine. Because this is in black and white, Jim put more pages in these special annuals. All material here originally appeared and was meant to be in black and white. And on top of all this, Jim used a cutting-edge printing format called stochastic, which means sharper blacks and much clearer images. And he hand-corrected any defects from the original appearance, so you can't get better reproduction that right here.
These Annuals have always been very popular when we feature them at shows; once you see one, you'll be hooked.
