Ursula K. Le Guin’s Earthsea novels are some of the most acclaimed and awarded works in literature—they have received prestigious accolades such as the National Book Award, a Newbery Honor, the Nebula Award, World Fantasy Award and many more honors, commemorating their enduring place in the hearts and minds of readers and the literary world alike. Now for the first time ever, they’re all together in one volume—including the early short stories, Le Guin’s “Earthsea Revisioned” Oxford lecture, and a new Earthsea story, never before printed. New introduction by Le Guin herself, fifty illustrations in both b&w and color, some double-page, by Charles Vess, specially commissioned and selected by Le Guin.

Stories & novels include: “A Wizard of Earthsea”, “The Tombs of Atuan”, “The Farthest Shore”, “Tehanu”, “Tales From Earthsea”, “The Other Wind”, “The Rule of Names”, “The Word of Unbinding”, “The Daughter of Odren”, and “Earthsea Revisioned: A Lecture at Oxford University”.

Embossed red cloth, wrap-around jacket with raised gold titles and double-folded edges. Sewn binding. The back cover includes testimonials praising the series by such luminaries as Margaret Atwood, Neil Gaiman, David Mitchell (Cloud Atlas), Molly Gloss and Mary Doria Russell, Pulitzer Price-nominated author of A Thread of Grace.

"LeGuin has a gift, which is to transform words into worlds."

"...when I'm with her people, I'm with living people, on worlds as old and real as my own."

With stories as perennial and universally beloved as The Chronicles of Narnia and The Lord of The Rings—but also unlike anything but themselves—this edition is perfect for those new to the world of Earthsea, as well as those who are well-acquainted with its enchanting magic: to know Earthsea is to love it.

Ursula K. Le Guin (1929-2018) published twenty-one novels, eleven volumes of short stories, four collections of essays, twelve books for children, six volumes of poetry, and four of translation, and received the Hugo, Nebula, Endeavor, Locus, Tiptree, Sturgeon, PEN-Malamud, and National Book Award and the Pushcart and Janet Heidinger Kafka prizes, among others. In recent years she has received lifetime achievement awards from World Fantasy Awards, Los Angeles Times, Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association, and Willamette Writers, as well as the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America Grand Master Award and the Library of Congress Living Legends award. Le Guin was the recipient of the Association for Library Service to Children’s May Hill Arbuthnot Honor Lecture Award and the Margaret Edwards Award. Her recent publications include the novel Lavinia, Words Are My Matter, an essay collection, and Finding My Elegy, New and Selected Poems.

Charles Vess did a charming bookplate for us, back in 2003, to go along with his now long-out-of-print picture book, Circle of Cats. Cats was completely redrawn and expanded into the young adult illustrated novel Cats of Tanglewood Forest. Since we have a few copies left, we're including one with each copy of Earthsea.
