  1. CLASSICS ILLUSTRATED #31 Around the World in 80 Days

Jules Verne's tale of Phileas Fogg and his bet to travel around the world in 80 days. It's always been a favorite story of mine, one of Jules Verne's pure adventure stories rather than science fiction. Kiefer was a stalwart of the Golden Age, although his work here is adequate at best. But he worked for nearly every comics company in his day. Born in 1890, he had already had a long illustration career before comics came along. Includes details about Verne's story and the very popular 1956 film. Learn More
  2. CLASSICS ILLUSTRATED #26 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea

Science and adventure are electrifying accomplices in Jules Verne's classic 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. This epic and enduring tale anticipates not just wonders such as electric light and submarine navigation, but the obsession with technology and travel that today so shapes our lives. It is Verne's inspired foresight, combined with his extraordinary talent for storytelling, that continue to make this novel such a compelling read. This is the original 1948 artwork behind a handsome painted cover. Learn More

Emulating the highly successful Classics Illustrated series, upstart publisher Pendulum Press started their "Now Age" line of books, aimed particularly at classrooms, "Bringing the Classics to Life." Vincent Fago was contracted to put together the series; he was an editor with Stan Lee at Timely Comics in the 1940s and a veteran of comics. Having trouble recruiting artists, he contacted Filipino artist Nestor Redondo, who in turn helped Fago recruit other Filipino artists for this unique project. Learn More

The classic tale of Nemo and the fearsome Nautilus submarine is retold in a wonderful new graphic novel, capturing the vintage feel of the original story, written in the 1860s. The combination of Verne's masterful storytelling and Gianni's dynamic graphic style makes this exciting adventure of life in the first submarine not to be missed. Learn More
  6. CLASSICS ILLUSTRATED #149 Off on a Comet

From the "father of science fiction," his third novel. Wonderfully illustrated by the excellent Gerald McCann, I can still distinctly remember being fascinated by this incredible story when I first read it in the early 1960s. Also here's the iconic cover, by an unknown artist, that captured CI reader's imaginations. Learn More
