This was virtually the last of the regular series Classics, with more very competent work by artist Norman Nodel. This comprises biographical profiles and sketches of 27 black personalities. These include Booker Washington, Nat Turner, Harriet Tubman, Oliver Cromwell (a Revolutionary War patriot) , Spy James, Benjamin Banneker, James Beckwourth, Robert Smalls and many others. This only went into two printings. Nodel also provided the painted cover, one of his best.

This is a respectful and serious look at, even at this point in time, a neglected area of American history.
