After years of incarceration on the remote island prison of the Château d'If, he learns of a vast treasure on the island of Monte Cristo and becomes determined to escape in order to retrieve the treasure and use it for vengeance against the men who betrayed him.One of the very first CI issues, first done in 1942, this edition sports a new painted cover and wonderful inside art by the fine Lou Cameron from the 1950s revision.
This went through an amazing 23 editions by 1968, making it one of the most popular titles Classics ever adapted. It also lead to the sequel novel and CI issue, Twenty Years After.
