The first of James Fenimore Cooper's "Leatherstocking Tales", this tells the story of the elderly Natty Bumppo and his ongoing friendship with the Mohican, Chingachgook. The more famous Last of the Mohicans features the same characters, and of course was the subject of the superb film in 1992, starring Daniel Day Lewis. Includes both a biography of Cooper, and a look at the story itself by Classics expert William B. Jones. Features the painted cover from the last 1968 edition.
