Michael W. Kaluta is captured in a comprehensive interview, covering his early fan days; mastery of his signature character, The Shadow; development of Starstruck, work with fellow legends from the Studio; and as the Vertigo cover artist! Plus a remarkably personal talk with the amazing Ramona Fradon about her 65+ years in the comic book business, with Aquaman, Metamorpho, Super-Friends, and Spongebob Squarepants! Plus: Kelly Jones interview, creators of Wacky Packs, Otto Binder book review & more.
Edited by Jon B. Cooke. Lots and lots here for the price, both abundant text to read so that even the most die-hard fan can learn new things, and also lots of fine artwork, much of it little seen elsewhere. Cooke really goes above and beyond each issue. The best and most interesting general comics magazine available today.
The flip cover (we scanned it here for you) is a delightful tribute to Ramona Fradon's very full life, as not only a comic book creator but much more. Her father was a noted designer and created the logos for Lord & Taylor (still used today) and Elizabeth Arden, among many others. She herself was part of the New Yorker community of artists and creators. And a page for CBS television during World War II! And the author of a book on Faust! I've met Fradon at the San Diego Comic-Con, and she is always a pleasure to talk to. I also happily bought several wonderful drawings she did at the shows. She's truly one of a kind.
