- Full Description
Spanning the 1960s–1980s, this erotic, science-fiction-themed second volume of the complete Crepax library features, in addition to adventuress Valentina, two more of the famed Italian erotic artist’s heroines. Marianna is a mysterious friend of Valentina’s (or is she? And why do they look so alike?). Belinda is a motorcycle-driving, pop art action star inspired by then-contemporary characters like Barbarella. In The Time Eater, Valentina meets a curious couple in an asylum, encounters strange creatures on a photo assignment, is caught in a Rube-Goldberg-like death trap, and much more.
Guido Crepax was born in Milan, Italy, in 1933. After acquiring a degree in architecture, he worked on publicity campaigns for such corporations as Shell and Dunlop and book covers and jazz LP jackets before contributing comics to the Italian magazine Linus in 1965. He went on to become one of Italy's most important cartoonists, most famous for his psychedelic and erotic Valentina stories. He died in 2003.
Very handsome oversized album, thick with lots of fine material and impressive from cover to cover. Crepax was the first comics master of erotic art, offering readers naked and often wildly sexual heroines like no other. Bondage, s&m, domination...few taboos were beyond his power to portray, titillating the reader. Like nothing ever done in the U.S., here was the wild abandon of European comics telling, combined with the erotic, that could only come from Italy and the continent. It's sophisticated and surreal, pushing the boundries when it was first published.
