- Full Description
First in a series of reprints of this famous title from the 1960s, entirely illustrated by Sam Glanzman. Includes restored story pages and lots of extra content, including the original painted cover. Four complete stories carry us through this hallowed battle, as the Nazis pushed the entire British army, before the United States entered the war, right onto the shores of France. Only by mobilizing every private boat and anything that floated to carry them off, did they stave off a horrible defeat that might have changed the course of World War II.
Sam Glanzman (1924-2017) served in the U.S. Navy all during World War II, so was well fitted to create realistic and dramatic comics as he continued his career after the war. Includes three bonus essays: a bio of the artist, Dean Webb on Glanzman's service career, and a look at Lord Gort, who was the man who led England's greatest retreat and evacuation.
Glanzman is well known for his outstanding collections of work, including U.S.S. Stevens, which is all about the ship he actually served on in the Pacific theatre, as well as A Sailor's Story, Attu, Red Range, and most recently, an archive collection of his Charlton Comics Hercules stories.
Also includes a bonus story, "One by Sea," not in the original comic book.
Cover by Glanzman. Also available is a variant cover edition, drawn by Walt Simonson.
