Here is the second and final volume of Panic--and it's every bit as good as its sister, Mad! The best EC artists and writers spoof comic strips like Alley Oop, Joe Palooka, Rex Morgan, MD, Bringing up Father, Captain Easy, Mary Worth and Charlie Chan. And films like Gone With the Wind and A Star is Born. With tons of great artwork by Wally Wood and Jack Davis in literally every issue.
Plus we have stories by William Gaines, Al Feldstein, and Jack Mendelsohn, and more art by Joe Orlando and Bill Elder! With a foreword by the legendary Sergio Aragonés, who's had a career at Mad for 55 years and counting!!
Panic has always been the poor sister to Mad--even though the creators, the material they were lampooning, the quality, was every bit as good as the work in the first 23 issues of Mad. Ok, they'd already gone after Superman and Batman and The Lone Ranger, but there was still a lot of ground to cover with those wonderful, subversive, outrageous stories. And they did it here in Panic.
Wally Wood and Jack Davis do incredibly great stuff here, each panel packed with details and "chicken fat." But here too is a wonderful story drawn by Joe Orlando, Travel Posters, which shows Wood's heavy influence on Orlando's work from this time.
Additional stories include Bob Bummel, Zoo Charade, It Shouldn't Have Happened Last Night and Foreign Movies. Also a spoof on the televsion show You Axed for It!, travel posters, Drive-In Movies, and even more. Plus the original letters pages, text stories, covers, house ads and more.
This uproarious volume collects issues of the madcap classic in glorious re-mastered color. Marie Severin originally colored all these stories for EC, so while they are newly colored (and we like what they have done), they have used her original work as their color guides.
