Foreword by Daniel Chabon. Dark Horse presents the final set of issues for this iconic title. Digitally recolored--using Marie Severin's original palette as a guide--and stories drawn by all-star comic artists Johnny Craig (all five covers and a story in each issue, besides writing several others), Bernie Krigstein (four stories, including the famous "Pipe Dream" and the highly experimental "The Catacombs"), Al Williamson, Reed Crandall, Graham Ingels (5 stories), Joe Orlando, and Jack Davis (3 stories).

Johnny Craig had been made editor at this point, and he was a good one. His covers are superb, his artwork some of his finest, and he was even writing stories for the other artists, such as Krigstein's "Pipe Dream" and "The Catacombs," which fatures unusual tonal art and a zillion panels in the style of "Master Race," the original art to which just sold for over $400,000!! In fact, all the Krigstein stories here are masterpieces of his unusual and brilliant storytelling, with extra panels, no panel rules, cinematic movement and more. The new coloring enhances these nicely and they are a joy to see.

Carl Wessler wrote "Chop Talk" drawn by Davis, another classic. Jack Oleck is the third writer whose work is here.

Beginning in Craig's "Surprise Party" in #37, and continued in #38 and with "Deadly Beloved" in #39, and finally in #40, the Vault Keeper introduced to readers a new addition to the horror hosts. The lovely and shapely Drusilla is pictured in all four splash pages, all drawn by Craig. The understanding was that she was to become a fourth horror host in perhaps a new horror title, the material for which eventually appeared as the last issue of Tales from the Crypt. But due to the senate hearings and the establishment of the Comics Code, EC had to stop publishing their horror titles before they could make further use of this new hostess.

Includes all the letters pages, ads for other titles (like the New Direction titles including Piracy and Valor, and a great one for Two-Fisted Tales), all text stories, and inside front cover promotions (five entirely different ones for Mad and Panic, which are very cool).
