- Full Description
Like virtually no other photographer, Stefan Soell is a master at capturing extremely explicit erotic images in an astonishingly imaginative and aesthetic way. Often accompanied by a touch of humor and a wink of the eye, his models switch between innocence and excitement, physical attraction and cool distance. This is precisely what pleases men, and fills the pages of Elysium Girls, his latest book, with a powerful sexual charge. Here he also uses interesting props, and has chosen girls with a cool innocence and yet voluptuous bodies. Like the title, a conjunction of the angelic and beautiful, with the desirable and arousing.
I've seen a lot of nude photography over the years and I often don't recommend books, since the appeal of each of these is in the eye of the beholder. However, I do find Soell's work here and in his other books to be exceptional. It's very hard to define it, but his women, here always completely nude, shaven and sometimes in explicit poses. still never give me the feeling that they are models, or movie stars, or strutting for the camera. Instead they are real women, caught at the peak of beauty and perfection. Even their expressions are unusal, from smiling to teasing to bold, but always like that astonishingly beautiful woman you wish you'd said hello to and could scarcely bear to stop looking at. -Bud
His other books include Celestial Girls, Modern Urban Girls and Alpengluhn. We carry all of these.
"The imagery...is a vision of the afterlife, a sort of no-man's-land or Never-Never-Land, as I would call it. Elysium is a paradisiacal place, reserved for the blessed and the righteous...I am incredibly interested in fairy tales, mythology and romance....I like my models to look cared for but natural, so make-up and styling is kept to a minimum level for my shoots." From a short interview with the artist, translated in both English and German.
Where on earth does Soell get these girls? In addition to some of his favorite models, the new volume contains some mainly new and sensationally pretty young women (25 in all). In the classical mythology of the ancient Greeks, Elysium was a paradise, located between this world and the one to come.
German photographer Stefan Soell began to take photos at the age of 15, and soon landscape and portrait photography had become his favourite subjects. In addition to his astonishing talent at choosing the ideal background and selecting key details, he also has the rare knack of capturing ideal lighting conditions.
