For the first time, an anthology that collects the best "lost comic strips" from rare comics fanzines, 1958-1975. It contains never-before-reprinted work by Robert Crumb, Jerry Ordway, Wendy Pini, Jeff Jones, Marv Wolfman, Roy Thomas, Dave Cockrum, Jim Shooter, George Metzger, John Byrne and many others...21 complete stories including the adventures of Dr. Weird, The Eclipse, The Human Cat, The Eye, The Bestest League, and a spectacular adaptation from Edgar Rice Burroughs' Jungle Tales of Tarzan.

Also here: Larry Ivie's Altron Boy, "Origin of the Eye", Otto Binder and Landon Chesney's"The Life Battery", D. Bruce Berry, "Grass" Green's wonderful Xal-Kor, The Human Cat, "Super-Human" by Roger Brand Goodguy, by Alan Hanley, Mark Wheatley, Alan Weiss, Dave Herring, and Buddy Saunders' Liberty Legion from Star Studded Comics.

R. Crumb does "My Encounter with Dracula" from his own self-published Foo #2, 1958.

Quality of the work here can be uneven, but these were FAN stories appearing in tiny-circulation fanzines. Often the creators went on to become major professionals, as you can see, but this is where they got their beginnings. Jeff Jones is doing a prehistoric beast story. Future underground artist George Metzger begins his amazing psychedelic strip, Master Tympe and Moebius Tripp.

And then there are some magnificent professional-quality strips by fans who never did go pro, such as Landon Chesney, Ron Foss and Bijo White.

Edited and annotated by Bill Schelly, long-time assistant editor of Alter Ego and now a well-known writer of artist biographies (Otto Binder, Harvey Kurtzman, Joe Kubert and John Stanley , among others).

Schelly's previous book was nominated for an Eisner Award and is now out-of-print. Signed by Schelly.
