- Full Description
What do a fifty-foot-tall telepathic merman, a typewriter possessed by Satan, and a demented ringmaster who attaches human heads to circus animals have in common? Nothing, perhaps? Well, except that they all appeared in Forbidden Worlds, the weird and wonderful anthology comic edited by Richard Hughes. Science fiction, horror and supernatural fantasy was all game in this sister title to Adventures Into the Unknown, which was the very first horror comic that began in 1948.
Forbidden Worlds began in 1950 and as a result tends to benefit from more developed stories ands some great artists that got on board at the publisher, American Comics Group (ACG). This ran straight into the late 1960s. Issues #6 through #11 of this enchanting and bizarre series are collected in a deluxe archival hardcover, which features a foreword by sci-fi and comics writer and BBC screenwriter Mark Chadbourn.
Great early art (pre-EC) by Al Williamson and Roy Krenkel (2 stories), and more demons, robots, and Atomic Age thrills than you can cram through an interdimensional portal! Other artists include Lou Cameron, Paul Gattuso, Paul Gustavson, Charles (Catman & Kitten) Quinlan (2 stories), the outstanding Harry Lazarus (3 stories) and the unique Jay Disbrow, Charles Sultan, and others. Includes all ads and letters pages, which are often a hoot.
