- Full Description
The sexy, often topless Amanda first appeared in Britain's The Sun on January 26th, 1976. She lasted for just under a year, running for 270 installments and was drawn by John Richardson. Sampling from these episodes make up the first half of the volume. The strip was later resuscitated with another artist, providing the second half of this book. The script of Amanda was written by Frederic Mullally, who also created the character. He was a novelist and political journalist, but best known to American readers for his creation "Oh Wicked Wanda," which appeared in the pages of Penthouse.
First compiled by Ken Pierce Books, the American publisher who was the first to collect Modesty Blaise and Axa, two more sexy British strips that offered a lot more nudity and sexual innuendo than ever allowed in American newspapers. Modesty Blaise has gone on to be collected again and again. Axa and Amanda remain only available in these early collections, relics of an age of irreverent adult comics and even a more innocent time!
