Almost Gone! Highly Recommended. By Hiroshi Unno. George Barbier George Barbier is today the most famous artist to come out of the heady Art Deco world in France in the 1910-1930 period. His illustrated books are enormously popular. His fashion illustration was spot on. His erotically themed pictures of semi-clad and nude women are some of the finest of the period. But to this day, very little has been written about him. This fine new book is based on an exhibit that originated in Japan, collecting a once-in-a-lifetime abundance of his original artwork. Nudity, eroticism. Mature Readers.

George Barbier is today the most famous artist to come out of the heady Art Deco world in France in the 1910-1930 period.

I've been a big fan of Barbier for many years and yet it is so rarely I find something new by him. So this handsome import is a welcome look at his work. Not only is it profusely illustrated with both his best and his rarest work, it also includes his rare set designs and fashion designs. And here is his story, as he rubbed shoulders with the affluent and the famous in Paris in the heyday of illustration. Text in English, Japanese and French.

This is written by and compiled by Hiroshi Unno, who we are quickly recognizing as a premier writer and designer of art books. In the same fine format, complete with metallic gilt covers and rare work rarely or never before seen, each of Unno's books is a treasure. He's done books on Harry Clarke, Mucha, two on book design, Avante-Gard Graphics in Russia...all of which we handle. I've found even if I have other books on the artist or subject, Unno still has surprises and delights in store. He really goes all out to find interesting, offbeat, and rare material on each subject he tackles.

And the books themselves, beginning with ornate gilt-decorated covers, are a joy from cover to cover. Limited text, in English and Japanese.
