The Cartoon Art Museum presents a stunning 144-page full-color catalog showcasing over 100 pieces of original artwork from CAM’s historic exhibition Grains of Sand. Highlights include 20 pages from the groundbreaking first issue; eight pages from "The Sound of Her Wings," featuring the first appearance of Death; full-color paintings by Yoshitaka Amano, Barron Storey, J.H. Williams III, and series cover artist Dave McKean; beautiful, un-retouched pencil artwork by famed illustrator Michael Zulli; and highlights from Neil Gaiman's personal collection of Sandman artwork.
Grains of Sand also features new text pieces by Sandman co-creators Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth, and Mike Dringenberg as well as Sandman: Overture artist J.H. Williams III.
Many of the pieces of art were signed and inscribed to friends and fellow artists, and all that is included here. Printed oversized in a handsome format that nicely shows off the detail in each piece of work.
This catalog was made possible by DC Comics and Vertigo, Butler, Shine, Stern & Partners, and exhibition co-curator and catalog designer Ryan Graff.
