- Full Description
Swashbucking science fiction hero Cody Starbuck was created by comic book artist Howard Chaykin and debuted in the first issue of Star Reach magazine in 1974.
This was a violent and sexually explicit space opera, in keeping with the liberties of the new creator-owned, independent comics movement. Cody moved to Heavy Metal magazine in 1981. There the character appeared in five issues before disappearing completely. The theme of a morally ambivalent and sexually adventurous hero was one that Chaykin would revisit again, most notably in his American Flagg series of the mid-Eighties.
The paintings reflect Chaykin’s love of pulp fiction book covers, and his strong sense of composition and design is evident in each print. The Cody Starbuck Portfolio contains four full-color plates in a black and white envelope. Each was printed on heavy index stock and measures 11 x 14 inches.
Note: This is an out of print, used and/or rare item. Fine plus. Envelope slightly smudged and sun damaged.
