- Full Description
This special issue features the art and articles of The Studio, which was the premier art magazine of the early 20th century, circa 1890-1925. Many of the brightest stars of the illustration firmament are featured here, including John D. Batten, Frank Brangwyn, Eleanor Brickdale, Maurice Detmold, Russell Flint, Norman Lindsay, Charles Robinson, Byam Shaw, Anders Zorn and many others, including a superb centerfold by Edmund Dulac.
A unique feature this issue is that Jim has included, when appropriate, the original captions and articles on many of these artworks. Through them, you can discover what this outspoken magazine had to say about the beginnings of long careers (such as Dulac's) as well as artists in the prime of their work (Rackham, Robinson, Detmold). Lots here to enjoy visually and to learn from.
More than 60 images fill these pages with some of the best art from illustration's Golden Age. Many beautiful full-color images throughout. "The Ink Spot" features the work of Annie French. A wonderfully varied collection of rare work. The artists will be familiar, but you're unlikely to have seen these images--they have never before been reprinted.
