The merry Marvel team-up you've been waiting for, as Spider-Man crosses paths with the one, the only, the regal Sub-Mariner in an extended newspaper page story unique to this series. Plus Aunt May turns criminal, Mary Jane Watson finds she has not one but two rivals tugging at Peter's heartstrings, and Spidey is caught between the mysterious Cerebrum Institute and a fanatical terrorist organization! Never before collected strips, plus a cool Intro by Bruce Canwell with extra art features.

Canwell collects six interesting Syndicate ads promoting the popular feature to newspapers, plus a 1983 newspaper article "Spidey grows in joke-a-day comic era" with a picture of Stan and one of the strips with Mary Jane and Spider-Man. As the article explains, an adventure strip was quite the rarity in the newspapers around this time, and with good writing and good art, Spider-Man was bucking the trend.

Includes the complete dailies and complete full color Sunday pages from Jan 2, 1983 to December 30, 1984. Two complete years. And the art is very strong. Fred Kida is little known today, but his career started in the Golden Age with Airboy, which he helped build into one of the most popular and long-lasting comics of its time. Kida was also part of the Eisner studio in the late 1940's, creating The Spirit Sunday sections, worked for two long runs assisting Dan Barry on Flash Gordon, and even assisted Milton Caniff on Steve Canyon! The artwork here reminds me of Gil Kane and John Romita, in the very best of ways. It's really well done, and the sequence with the Sub-Mariner, which takes Spidey out of New York and into Subby's underwater world, is outstanding.
