- Full Description
The true story of author Francis Parkman's adventures with the indians and cavalry in Nebraska, Wyoming, Colorado and Kansas in the summer of 1846. Instead of the 1950 cover, this uses the first painted cover from 1956. Parkman as a young man was fascinated with the west, and frustrated with accounts of the indians. He determined to travel west and live among the native Americans, becoming the foremost historian of the era and writing a more factual view of life on the frontier.
Includes a two page biography of Parkman (1823-93), and another two-page account of the real Oregon Trail by Classics expert William B. Jones. Classics Illustrated tells this wonderful tale in colorful comic strip form, offering an excellent introduction for younger readers. The Classics Illustrated comic book series began in 1941 with its first issue, Alexandre Dumas’s "The Three Musketeers", and has since included over 200 classic tales released around the world. This new CCS Books edition is specifically tailored to engage and educate young readers with some of the greatest works ever written, while still thrilling older readers who have loving memories of this series of old.
