- Full Description
At long last, the final component of The Complete EC Library! Seldom seen and highly sought-after for decades, Shock Illustrated, Terror Illustrated, Crime Illustrated, and Confessions Illustrated are among the hardest-to-find EC titles--because this experiment using magazine format and text & illustrations, wonderful as it was, didn't sell on the newsstands. Includes the rare Shock Volume 3 (only 200 subscriber copies were ever distributed), but here too are 18 previously unpublished Picto-Fiction stories.
Picto-Fiction magazines were like comic books, but larger, and the interiors were not in color, so they were not subject to the comics code. Features some of the finest work of artists Reed Crandall, Jack Davis, George Evans, Graham Ingels, Jack Kamen, Rudy Nappi, Joe Orlando, Bud Parke, Charles Sultan, Angelo Torres, Al Williamson and Wallace Wood, and writers Robert Bernstein, Al Feldstein, Daniel Keyes, John Larner, Jack Oleck, and Richard Smith. Plus, a partially finished Frank Frazetta story!
Here EC chose to redo some of its best comic book stories, but they also experimented, pushing the envelope with film noir type stories, for instance. The artists were unfettered by small panels and could expand and broaden their illustrations, like no other opportunity in comics. These have never before--or since--been collected. This set was very popular when it first appeared and has been sold out from publisher Russ Cochran for quite a few years. Unexpectedly, a small supply turned up from another source and we corralled as many as we could, knowing how cool this is.
Here's another chance to get the set if you missed out the first time. Still at the original publication price!!!
