Explore the origin of Batman as well as pre-Batman Detective Comics in this miniature art book. Here are the first 300 covers, from April 1937 with #1, to Feb, 1962, just after comics went from ten to twelve cents cover price! It's comic book history with fun and very, very cool covers. The first 26 issues are now icons themselves, before Batman, with Fu Manchu and hardy, two-fisted detectives and criminals. Then follow Batman from lone warrior to Robin's start, through the creation of the Batmobile, first cover appearances of Clayface, Catwoman, The Joker, The Penguin, Riddler, Two-Face, on and on.
Artist Creig Flessel, best known for being the co-creator of the original Sandman, is responsible for many of these pre-Batman covers, and they are WONDERFUL!
Then you have the famous hypodermic needle cover of #35, artwork by Bob Kane and Jerry Robinson, the first appearance of The Boy Commandos by Simon & Kirby in #64, all those great wartime covers, the first Scarecrow, the first Bat-Signal cover, the Frankenstein cover (#135), the origin of the Batcave (#205), Mad-Hatter, first Batwoman, Batman origins retold...and so much more.
This is volume 1 of the Complete Covers, collecting #1-300.

- Okay, but full size would be better
- I'll start off by saying that I do like this collection. The opportunity to have all of these various covers in a collected edition is a great find. Unfortunately, I didn't read the description. I just bought it on the picture and title alone, so I had no idea this was a "miniature" version of the covers. I probably wouldn't have bought it, if has seen that. Still, it's a nice collection and a good resource to have. One can only hope a full size version might be available some day. Although since this is "volume 1", I'd guess they'll come out with more this size first.
