- Full Description
This is the second illustrators special, devoted to the Italian artists from the Dami agency who drew breathtaking covers and art for British comics in the 1950s to 1970s, particularly War, Battle and Air Ace Picture Library. Nothing before has been written about these highly talented artists and this special is packed with dramatic cover art scanned directly from the originals. Hugo Pratt is here, along with Dell'Orco, Tacconi, Caroselli, Calegari, Biffignandi, D'Antonio, and De Gaspari. Some nudity.
Besides Pratt, you may recognize the name Alessandro Biffignandi. OK, I find it unpronounceable. But we also handled an entire book devoted to this master of Italian horror comics in the two-book Sex and Horror series, collecting two Italian masters. Unfortunately, it just recently went out of print.
All the genres of comic art and illustration are covered here: war, western, bodice rippers (including the original photographs the artist worked from), horror, and erotic art.
Features include "How an ex-POW founded an illustration agency that went to war for 20 years." And writer Peter Richardson talks about how the second World War came to dominate the pages of Britain's pocket library comics. The rest of the issue is devoted entirely to the careers and artwork of the eight artists listed above, each with his own chapter.
