Almost Gone! Highly Recommended. With Ed Piskor and Patrick Rosenkranz. Jay Lynch was a counterculture Renaissance man whose career as cartoonist, satirist, and archivist spanned over six decades. This book is the definitive anthology of the artist’s life as he contributed to the earliest underground comix, designed timeless novelties, and eventually settled down as a painter. Includes all his signature Nard n’ Pat stories; selections from comics like Bijou Funnies, Turned-On Cuties and Mineshaft; a sampling of his art for Bazooka Joe, Wacky Packages, and Garbage Pail Kids; and collaborations with Art Spiegelman, Robert Crumb, and Ed Piskor. Adult Material.

From his dysfunctional childhood to the day he picked out his head stone, Lynch’s life is also narrated throughout by comics historian Patrick Rosenkranz, adding to this retrospective of an American original and one of comics’ most beloved figures.

Jay's cover for the seminal Bijou Funnies in 1968 was an example of a dyed-in-the-wool comics fan getting into the underground movement at just the right time and place. He went on to do numerous comics, lots of fun strips (in the same quirky stream-of-consciousness style of Harvey Pekar & Robert's Crumbs vignettes), and even did polished air brush and painting. He was the full blown fanboy-turned-cartoonist, and this is a wonderful look at his best work and his long, rewarding (hopefully) career.
