Dynamite presents VARGR, the debut storyline in the all-new James Bond comic book series, as crafted by masterful writer Warren Ellis (Transmetropolitan, The Authority) and artist Jason Masters (Batman Incorporated, Guardians of the Galaxy). Well-drawn, fast-paced, and Bond-violent! It's vintage Bond. A new mission involving tainted drug trafficking starts in Berlin, but there is far more to this story. Bond is walking into a killing field. 27-page BONUS section of MANY variant covers by guest artists.

He has no idea of the forces ranged in secret against him, the full range of a deadly drug operation that's going to turn the British Isles into a petri dish of infectious disease. A sophisticated but demented mastermind and his dedicated killers, including a once-heroic ex-marine who lost her arms in the middle East but now has new, improved prosthetic limbs--and she is after Bond's demise in a big way, particularly after he kills her like-wise demented and broken boyfriend.

It all begins as Bond assumes the workload of a fallen 00 section agent and due to new laws, can no longer carry his beloved  Walther PPK over the border... Bond without a gun? Not for long, and the lethal ammunition he gets from Q is going to make a real mess as even a minor wound can be a stopper. This is classic Bond, the lone-wolf who kills without hesitation and once wronged, takes it very personally. A good, page-turning read that I (Bud) could not put down from beginning to end.

The BONUS section includes five pages of character studies by Jason Masters, and then an amazing 22 pages of variant covers--for which Dynamite is well known. It's interesting to see many guest artists doing their own take on Bond. These include Joe Jusko (shown here, with the leggy girl), Francesco Francavilla (several), Glenn Fabry, Aaron Campbell (several), Robert Hack (a homage to vintage 1950s paperback covers), Ben Oliver, Dennis Calero et al.

"...the best contemporary take on 007." -Brian K.Vaughan (Saga).

"This debut from Dynamite is everything I could have wanted." -Newsarama.

"Tense and fast-moving." -Comic Book Resources.

"This is classic James Bond here." -Bleeding Cool.
