Over 70 artists’ nude self-portraits--and funny as all get out. These guys know how to spoof themselves and the world, and it shows. Including Sergio Aragonés, Art Spiegelman, Will Eisner, Charles Schulz, Mort Walker, Scott Adams, Al Jaffee, Ann Telnaes, Jeff Smith, Trina Robbins, Lynn Johnston, Russell Myers... And Jim Borgman, Will Elder, Jules Feiffer, Stan Goldberg, Dan Piraro, Morrie Turner, and a fabulously macrabre piece by, you'd just know it, Gahan Wilson. And dozens more.

The girls do some of our favorites--Trina trying to get into an Amazon-sized body, and another voluptuous one (shown here). Paige Braddock (one of our favorites) stands behind an x-ray, showing cartoonist accoutrements inside her (shown here). Nino Paley wields a huge strap-on, well, pencil. She's an artist, right?

Cartoonists are notoriously physically lovely, well-proportioned, statuesque, graceful, and always with a twinkle in their eyes, so in order not to make their readers envious or resentful, they often depict themselves in deliriously outlandish or humiliating situations and usually festooned with self-deprecating anatomical features. This is where cartoonists have to rely on nothing but their wit, inventiveness, and desperation to make themselves look as unattractive as humanly possible. In other words, as far from reality as they can possibly get. The cartoonists in this book succeed mightily at this gallant effort.

It's a lot of fun. I was going to give it my general "Recommended," then I remembered this is on sale. Well, for $9.99, I have to raise the bar to "Highly Recommended" 'cause it really is a cool little package--entirely in color--at less than half the published price. All new work!! Based on a small part of a collection that began in 1956, over 400 works gathered together by Mark Cohen, which became an exhibit at the Charles Schulz Museum in Santa Rosa. Heartfelt intoduction by his late wife.
