Highly Recommended. More than just cogs, gears, and goggles, steampunk burst from the pages of science fiction and fantasy inspired by the likes of Jules Verne and H.G. Wells and rapidly grew into one of the most recognizable aesthetic movements of the 21st century. This outstanding volume gathers work by the best artists, designers, and craftsmen in the field, sure to fire the imagination of any fan. It overflows with intricate sculpture work, superlative digital and traditional art, and fashion--this may be the best collection we've seen yet -- it's very, very good.

More than just cogs, gears, and goggles, steampunk burst from the pages of science fiction and fantasy inspired by the likes of Jules Verne and H.G. This outstanding volume gathers work by the best artists, designers, and craftsmen in the field, sure to fire the imagination of any fan. Steampunk is at once decadent and utilitarian, perfect for an afternoon fixing your airship or an evening spent at a retro-futuristic Victorian ball. Projects within include conceptual designs and realized projects in fashion, sculpture, toys, props, and more, all of which explore a world where inventions of the past and a fantastical future coexist. Features the works of artists such as Samuel Gomez, Kazuhiko Nakamura, Riccardo Sabatini, Alain Bellino, Uli Staiger, Z.A.L., Elwira Pawlikowska, Nicole Stengel, 2-Far Playthings, and many others. Each of the artists comments about their work and the movement in general.

The book leads off with the work of Kazuhiko Nakamura (b. Japan, 1961), who did a frankly fabulous Steampunk Calendar for 2014 that was the first of his work to catch our eye. He's simply amazing, like the H.R. Giger of steampunk. I also greatly admire the work of Alexander Schlesier, whose work you see on the cover and in 12 more pages. It's astonishing.
