Spirited teenager Domino Drake was just a normal girl... until she stumbled upon an alien artifact, acquired uncanny power, and became a beacon for intergalactic trouble! With her tabby cat Cap'n Kidd in tow, Domino joins the motley crew of the Starshadow -- a spacefaring pirate ship captained by the charismatic and fearless Raader. Imagine a young, bright-eyed girl on a galaxy-wide escapade, full of high-energy antics straight out of Guardians of the Galaxy and Pirates of the Caribbean...!

Or as Bill Matlo first pitched the idea: "...a Star Wars-type saga on acid."

Domino embarks on a cosmic odyssey to save her kidnapped parents and overthrow the evil Colonizer Empire. And here are some more highlights: The crew of the Starshadow mutinies a second time as they are drawn into the Cloudwall; Pam and Jim free J'Rel and make their escape, also into the Cloudwall. Raader and friends are set adrift in a lifeboat with no provisions; Our friends discover and land on a planet where the dwarves have indicated they may find a new ship; they find long lost Captain Scarlet and his ship, the Queen of the Caribe; Raader and friends are reunited with her old ship and crew; Back through the Cloudwall, they head for Haven, the pirate planet; Black Bess and her pirate crew are waiting to ambush her; And the Colonizer fleet is waiting to destroy them all. And that's just through issue #6.

In an unusual move, this first appeared in 1984 as a 48-page Marvel Graphic Novel. And then it became a limited 12-issue series from 1985-87. Artist Jackson Guice did all the artwork on the first four issues, then was succeeded by Geof Isherwood and then by Colleen Doran, who is inked by Ricardo Villamonte. The art is highly detailed and quite good, and it' s a fun and satisfying saga, nearly 500 pages in length.

Bonus pages include a new Afterword by Michael Mantlo, four pages of photos, two full page cover sketches, and six pages of Guice's character studies.

In the Foreward, Marc Guggenheim describes how Mantlo was at the top of his game when this project came long. He'd just finished four and a half years of creating a rich universe for Micronauts, along with a four-issue cross-over with The X-Men. He was also doing ROM and a number of other major Marvel series, along with creating Rocket Raccoon for Guardians of the Galaxy! So when Marvel gave Bill and Jackson Guice a chance to create a whole new adventure in the form of the newly conceived and creator-owned graphic novels, instead of beginning as a comic book series, they jumped into it with both feet.
