- Full Description
A fascinating documentary on the making Tarzan of the Apes 1917 in Morgan City, Louisiana. Filmmakers, actors and circus acrobats fought malaria and the sweltering heat of a Louisiana swamp to create what became an instant hit with audiences. This pulls back the curtain on fact and fiction: Were monkeys and apes left behind in the swamp? Did Elmo Lincoln actually kill a lion? Was this the first on-location film outside of NY and California? Plus all about ERB, why Morgan City of all places, and more. Includes the complete one-hour film.
Produced by Al Bohl and his daughter Allison Bohl, the film includes the historical setting at the time the film was made. The original silent film Tarzan of the Apes is here on Disc 2, set to a new musical score by Kermit Poling.
Also includes a conversation with Burrough Bibliophiles curator George McWhorter, a featurette on Atchafalaya Heritage, a collection of Tarzan yells, and the Audubon Zoo.
