The Complete Freak Brothers--624 pages collecting ALL the comics from the sixties to the eighties in one fat volume. Fat Freddy, Phineas and Freewheelin' Franklin, the ultimate crazed hippy stoners! Beginning in 1968, Shelton's ground-breaking stories set the template for much of the underground comix revolution and here, every story, strip and gag has been collected along with rare promotional items and a short history of the Freak Brothers. These hilarious and deviant stories feature mind-boggling artwork, mostly in b&w, with two large color sections.

Shelton started his comics career with Wonder Warthog, a super-hero spoof that appeared as a back-up strip in various sixties magazines. But his greatest success, the Academy-Award creation of his career, was the Freak Brothers. Anyone who ever touched an underground comic in the sixties and seventies remembers R. Crumb's Zap Comix and Shelton's Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers.

Selling the original comics for .75 and $1 each, these were the beginnings of my own career in comics. I wanted to handle fan magazines and books about comics, beginning in 1970, but I was also in the right place at the right time. Just 50 miles from the San Francisco scene, I became one of the very few sources, particularly in the world of comics fans, for these highly creative underground comix. The best, very specifically the Freak Brothers, went through one printing after another after another, slowly subverting a public that wanted comics written for the hip and the young...and the stoned.

Crumb is more famous now, but Shelton was hands-down the funniest and most inspired artist/writer in the underground scene. His work truly set the standard to which most other creators aspired. It doesn't get better than this!

Constant drug references, occasional nudity and adult situations...but all in fun.
