Limited, 1000! Recommended. By David Apatoff. Forward by Walt Reed. At the peak of his fame, Bernie Fuchs' work was more widely admired—and imitated—than any other contemporary illustrator. At the age of 30 he was named "Artist of the Year" by the Artists Guild of New York. By 1975, he was the youngest illustrator ever elected to the Society of Illustrators Hall of Fame. Now at last a major retrospective of Bernie's work has been assembled, the first such book published to date, filled with magazine covers, original paintings and a complete look at his career, which was incredibly wide ranging.

Following a 30-page essay on his life and career, his work is broken down into an amazing variety of subject areas: Automotive Illustrations (including racing and the Indianapolis 500), Editorial (such as TV Guide covers of James Garner, Alan Alda, Carroll O'Conner, James Arness, Frank Sinatra), Advertising, Sports (including football, baseball and the Negro League and Muhammad Ali), Portraits (of presidents including John F. Kennedy, Jimmy Carter, LBJ, plus Martin Luther King, as well as New Orlean Jazz greats), Book Illustrations, Posters and Murals, Drawings, Color Studies, Gallery Paintings and Career Highlights.

He never lacked for prestigious clients: Intercontinental Hotels, Sports lllustrated, AT&T, ESPN, Royal Caribbean Lines, and General Motors. He did superb paintings featuring the latest cars for GM from 1955 to 1960, pictured in urban settings, at golf events, Little League, even at the farm. It's fun material.

Another fine book from The Illustrated Press. Be aware of the limited print run. Nearly every one of their books sells out within a short time after publication.
