Dell Comics Stories, 1942-49. Highly Recommended. By Walt Kelly. Compiled by David W. Tosh. Expanding on the earlier volume Walt Kelly's Fairy Tales, this goes beyond the one Dell title Fairy Tale Parade to include a wide swath of Kelly's wonderful pre-Pogo kid's comic stories. Here are carefully selected and rarely seen works that originally appeared in issues of Dell Comics’  Animal Comics, Four Color specials like Christmas With and Easter With Mother Goose, Our Gang with Tom and Jerry, Raggedy Ann and Andy, March of Comics #3 and Santa Claus Funnies.

Just one story overlaps with the Fairy Tales volume, while the other 24 stories offer a wonderful cross-section. Not only was Kelly a gifted artist, he was a brilliant storyteller, and this is work that can be enjoyed by adults and kids alike. Chapters tell more of the overall stories here: Flights of Fancy, Animal Pals, Mother Goose, The Kids Know Best, Searching for the Easter Bunny and Finally, It's Christmas!

John Petty's eight-page introduction includes a page of original artwork and two Kelly illustrations from a rare post-WWII book Japanese: A Guide to the Spoken Language.

Before achieving international fame as the creator of Pogo Possum, legendary cartoonist Walt Kelly produced an outstanding body of work adapting and illustrating fairy tales, fables and nursery rhymes for Dell Comics in the 1940s. Already an indisputable master of his craft, these wonderful and whimsical stories come to unparalleled life through Kelly’s signature, spirited humor and fluid, exuberant hand.

This is a one-shot title.
