From the same publisher as Johnny Canuck and The Polka Dot Pirate, a complete facsimile issue of a classic 1941 issue, Wow Comics #1 with all original material. No relation to the U.S. Wow Comics from Fawcett. When the War Conservation Act (WECA) stopped U.S. comics from coming into Canada, young creators there began their own industry. Influenced by American comics (in this case, by Will Eisner's Hawk of the Seas and Planet Comics, here we have two long, wild adventures: Dart Daring, daredevil master swordsman, and Whiz Wallace and the Invisible Planet.

With all the Golden Age trimmings, with one-page features, a text story, even a contest for readers. Artist Legault is today considered one of the best to come out of the Canadian comics era, which lasted from just 1940 5o 1946. His work here is quite good, and the hero seems a cross between Tarzan and The Sea Hawk. A beautiful lady is also part of the picture.

Whiz Wallace also has a beautiful co-star, and this seems very much in the theme of the early issues of Planet Stories and the Fox-published comics like Science, Weird and Wonderworld. Nice large panels are the norm, which helps display the artwork. We're not talking slick and polished here, just like much of the early Golden Age was in the U.S.-- it was a new day for creators and they were pushing the envelope.

Color is crude, just in two colors, but the energy and originality shine through here. Collected for the first time ever is the complete restored issue of Wow Comics #1! This comic is notable for being the first color comic published in Canada in 1941, by Bell Features.

The comic features the stories of Dart Daring, a jungle adventurer and Whiz Wallace, a sci-fi hero. Both stories are by E. T. Legault and the issue is 64 pages long. Never before collected. The original is among the rarest of the Canadian comics, and prices these days are in the range of early issues of Superman and Batman--it's that rare.
