- Full Description
Step into the fantastical world of Stan Manoukian’s complex and intricate creatures. In 200 pages, Zoologia immerses the reader in a fantastic bestiary. For ten years, this amazing French illustrator imagined and drew creatures sometimes disturbing, sometimes funny, sometimes cute, sometimes monstrous, but always fascinating. Stan has divided his creations into six chapters, each representing distinct geological terrains and environments: frozen, swampy, dry, wooden, rocky, and twilight.
In 2006 he started to draw "A Monster A Day" as way to develop his own critter universe and the project grew bigger and bigger. Inspired by old books, dictionaries and old engraved plates and paintings owned by his father, he likes to represent his creatures in the manner of the old encyclopedias; indexing them, classifying them and describing them. This challenge resulted in the book "Diary of inhuman species," published in France in 2009. Stan continued to make these creations live on social networks and on his site, and here we are treated to a fabulous collection of his work. We really, really like it.
Born in 1969, Paris, France, Stan Manoukian is a veteran illustrator working in the comic book industry in France and the U.S and as a designer and story boarder for movies and commercials.
Vintage science fiction, classic monsters and romantic writers like Edgar Allan Poe, Lovecraft and Mary Shelley as well as Jules Verne and H.G. Wells filled his childhood and influenced him forever into drawing strange creatures which look like a mix between aliens from outer space and Cthulhu's spawn.
"He took advantage of the challenges of the InktOber periods to revive the lives of these little characters outside the digital world and self-published his first book "Species" T1 in 2015. Next, "Meelo's Big Adventure" (2016), "Bunny! "(2017) and" Species "T2 that came out in June, for pleasure." -Translated from the French. This, we believe, is his first work in English.
