Comes with a limited signed postcard. Alaxis Press, publishers of The Leaning Girl, have teamed up with artist Mark Nelson to publish a new book in the form of a discovered volume of lost horror drawings based around the Lovecraft mythology...but actually by Mark himself. 192 pages of full-color along with the artist's own diary entries, Nelson's comments, and more.
Lovecraft has inspired writers as diverse as Stephen King and William S. Burroughs. But what if there was more to Lovecraft's stories? What if his settings were not so imaginary?
It's all about the work of H.P. Lovecraft and those "darker" sensibilities, like the Elder Gods and Cthulhu.
"I cannot only see Mark's drawings--I can touch them. He delineates the essential beauty of all lifeforms, whether real or imagined, sublime or subterranean, soaring or slithering." Stephen Bissette
"Mark Nelson's genius (and I use the word advisedly) for imagining creatures makes him uniquely capable of entering into a single Lovecraft short story and bringing it vividly alive in a darkly playful way no other artist alive today can match. The sheer creativity is a wonder and a delight. I do sincerely believe Lovecraft himself would have loved this delightful work." -Stephen Hickman
Cloth binding with a special metallic-embossed vignette; full color jacket.
Renowned illustrator and comic artist Mark A. Nelson has spent years researching legends surrounding the "fictional" town of Innsmouth, and discovered, on a surprisingly fruitful visit to the Miskatonic University Library in Arkham, Mass., evidence that an artist named Mannish Sycovia traveled from revolutionary Russia to Innsmouth in 1914 to create portraits of the Innsmouth elite, under the patronage of Mr. Barnabas Marsh. Marsh was the cornerstone of Innsmouth high society, and heir to the Obed Marsh Gold Refining business. His increasingly strange behavior and his infrequent ventures out of Innsmouth helped to alienate him from those closest to him. Following the 1927 demolition of the town by the U.S. Army following an aggressive bootlegging raid, the artist was never heard from again. Only rumors and fishy stories remained until this body of work was uncovered.
