Details
Pastoral is filled with Cooper's energetic, expressive pencil and ink drawings of wildlife and their stewards in soft, subtle colors. Gouache works from her travels and her most recent gallery paintings also appear. Over 170 previously unpublished works are collected. Includes two 10x10 prints, laid in. Some nudity. Oversized square format."She has the perfect mixture between the informed sciences and the surreal as she stretches reality into an abundance of unique views that constantly amazes. The intelligence and cleverness of her drawings are simply extraordinary."
From publisher of this and the Spectrum Annual, John Fleskes: "The first time I saw Cooper's art was when she submitted to Spectrum: The Best in Contemporary Fantastic Art. This is when her art smugly entered my life, sat in front of me to show itself off, and literally caused a pause in time. I couldn't help but to absorb and enjoy her art for an undetermined (translates to very long) amount of time. This moment repeats itself every time I see a new piece of hers."
J.A.W. Cooper was born in England to a South African/British mother and an American father, both freshwater ecologists. She grew up traveling for their research and professor exchanges, living in Kenya, Sweden, Ireland and traveling across Europe. Home base was Southern California between trips, sabbaticals, and longer stays in other countries. Her mother always practiced art, in particular scientific illustration, and from an early age she was eager to learn how to perform the same kind of "magic." Between her parent's dedication to ecology, their extensive traveling, and her mother's skill as an artist, Cooper was primed to be fascinated with flora and fauna and obsessed with capturing them in sketches and paintings.
"Mature Warning: These items contain drawings of boobs and butts! ...nude subjects elegant and artistic...We feel that the nudes...are graceful, playful, and charming. This is fair warning that as cute and cuddly as Cooper’s art is, it is intended for a mature audience and for those who are 18 years or older."
