All inks and lettering by Mike Royer. Stories (with covers) are "The Devil" from #11, "The Devil and Mr. Sacker" from #12, "Hell in Hialeah" from #13, "Winner Take All!" from #14, "The Watergate Secrets" from #15, and "The Hospital" from #16, the story of how the animals gained their intelligence. All entirely from the original artwork, scanned to get every detail.

New introduction by Eric Larsen: "The origin of the title itself [Kamandi] is pretty well known: DC publisher Carmine Infantino, after having lost a bidding war to rival Marvel Comics for the rights to the movie property Planet of the Apes, suggested to Jack that he do a spin on the idea for [DC]. Jack had years earlier developed and abandoned a comic strip called Kamandi of the Caves, and he dusted off and adjusted the name for this new feature."

"To say he took the idea in a bold new direction is the understatement of the century. While DC's rivals were confined by the roadmap provided by the movie, Jack felt no such restrictions, and he populated his ravaged world with a vast array of animals, and concocted other characters, concepts and locations that would put any Hollywood production to shame. It's no wonder that Kirby's 'knockoff' outlasted the competition by several years."

"Kamandi was Kirby's biggest DC hit."
