- Full Description
Jon Arfstrom was the last remaining cover artist for the original Weird Tales, where he produced covers and interior drawings in the early 1950s. He also did work for SF digests Mystic, Spaceway and Other Worlds, as well as fan-produced magazines. He went on to work at Brown & Bigelow for 40 years, doing books, calendars and advertising. Here are collected his later works, incorporating influences like James Christiansen, Ed Cartier and even Dali, surreal, fantasy works of other dimensions.
This is a limited-run exhibit catalog assembled by long-time bookseller and publisher Greg Ketter (Dreamhaven Books). The inside cover features a wonderful portrait, complete with demons and old gods, of H.P. Lovecraft. Jon also did, more recently, covers and other illustrations for Fedogan & Bremer, PS Publishing, and Haffner Press, including the cover and interior art for Robert Bloch's Stoker Award-winning collection The Early Fears.
Jon was a guest at the 2015 Pulpfest in Columbus, Ohio, and displayed art at two World Fantasy Conventions in Minneapolis (1993, 2002) as well as the 2015 World Fantasy Convention in Saratoga Springs. This catalog is a small representation of Jon's personal works which were displayed at the 2016 Windy City Pulp and Paper Show in Chiccago. Any are for sale. They were created in the early to mid 1970s to shortly before his death in 2015.
