An epic (read: major length) fantasy drawn by the internationally-renowned illustrator Claire Wendling, winner of the Press Award at the Angoulême Comics Festival. Wendling is no stranger to accolades--she was just made Grand Master in the latest Spectrum Awards. This world is populated by a wide array of species, including the human-like Transparents—and one in particular, the beautiful but enigmatic young woman named Orane. And the Ferrets, intelligent talking  animals with an agenda. And humans, who everyone is trying to hide from.

Long ago, no living creatures existed in the Legend world, except for a magician by the name of Théo…and a giant oak tree. The two beings made a pact: one would imagine and draw the form of the creatures, to which the second would give life. In exchange, the magician would become immortal. But as time passes, the Great Oak begins to weaken, and Théo wants to acquire its power…and then there are Yz and Meth, two hybrid demons who threaten to turn the world upside down. First English translation.

We try to handle anything by Wendling that we can. She's done numerous sketch and art books, all but one of which are out of print. Her graphic novels are quite few and far between, as she spends more time working on creature creation for film and television projects.

From Wikipedia: This is her one-and-only series, which she began work on in 1990, and was first published in France in five volumes between 1990 and 1996. In 1997, she was hired by Warners studio and moved to Los Angeles to participate in various projects including The Quest for Camelot. Failing to acclimatize, she returned to France eight months later and published Desk, a book of sketches made in Los Angeles. In 2000, she did graphic design work for the video game Alone in the Dark IV.

Wendling is an infrequent author: some short stories, a series of sketch books and illustrative works, her complete works are held in a single volume. Though she has been compared to Régis Loisel, Wendling is perhaps closer to Anglo-Saxon artists such as Jeffrey Catherine Jones or Mike Mignola.

She is one of three shortlisted candidates for the Grand Prix de la ville d'Angoulême, one of the world's most prestigious comics awards, along with Alan Moore and Hermann Huppen.

In 2017, she was guest of honor at the 75th Worldcon (World Science Fiction Convention). She has recently appeared at several comic conventions and bookstore events, promoting her latest sketchbook, Forget-Me-Not, which can be found on our website.
