As he did for the DC characters in his art book Mythology, Alex Ross now brings his dynamic, almost photo-realistic art to the heroes of the Marvel universe. Marvelocity includes more than 50 never-before-published sketches, paintings, photographs and working models, and other preparatory art, plus a 14-panel portfolio gallery of Marvel's most beloved characters. And Ross has written a new 10-page story pitting Spider-Man against the Sinister Six--the webslinger's most popular villains--that ends with a stunning twist. Spectacular fold-out jacket with five more full-sized panels, alternate covers!

Thirteen years after his Eisner Award-winning, nationally best-selling Mythology--here is the long-awaited Marvel Comics counterpart, a retrospective celebration of the other half of the comics galaxy that is currently ruling the world: Spider-Man, Iron Man, Captain America, Black Panther, the Avengers, the X-Men, Doctor Strange, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and the Fantastic Four.

I see lots of special features here, such as licensing products that Alex's artwork was used for, studies, pencil art. But most of this is about amazing full-page and double-page paintings, bursting with colorful characters. Ross is an incredible talent, bring a contemporary realism to the world of comics characters.

Includes a rare look at Alex's first drawings as a youngster, work from his time at the American Academy of Art in Chicago (he had long hair!), Marvel try-out pages from 1990, his Iron Man proposal with Kurt Busiek in 1991, props, prelims and the entire story of creating Marvels in 1991...and it just keeps going. A major art book. He also talks about the influences of Jack Kirby, showing how he adapted Jack's iconic comic book covers to his own style. He does the same with John Romita, Jr.'s Spider-Man, The Earth X Trilogy, etc.

"Alex is a legend. Even if you don't consider yourself a comics-head, you should check out his work to see what the best of the form has to offer." --Ta-Nehisi Coates
