- Full Description
This third volume completes the run--the last three issues actually reprint Eerie #1 & #2 with Wood; and #3 by Wood, Orlando & Kubert. The bonus issues are way cool...Phantom Witch Doctor, 1952, with Everett Raymond Kinstler cover & art; Night of Mystery, 1953, with Kinstler & Hollingsworth; and Eerie Comics, 1947, the first-ever Horror Comic, with Kubert and Fujitani.
The first Eerie features a bondage cover and is considered the first "supernatural" comic. All are digitally enhanced and faithfully reproduced. This includes those wonderful Avon inside-front-covers, with the contents stories redrawn, here with two by Everett Raymond Kinstler and they are wonderful.
Avon did many one-shot comics, and this includes two fun ones. Night of Mystery includes three stories by the team of Nodeland Alascia, who went on to do a great deal of work for Charlton. Here they do "Diary of Doom." "The Ghost of the Coal Mine." and "The Haunted Arrow." "The Giant from Earth" looks to be the work of Joe Giella.
The second one shot here is an epic title, The Phantom Witch Doctor. The inside cover by Kinstler, featuring twirling scantily clad women is a must-see. Kinstler also contributes "Thing in the Mirror" which is the stand-out tale, art-wise, of the issue. But the cover here is a classic and one of his best works, with a beautiful woman in a scanty, swirling negligée that is as impressive as anything Alex Raymond ever did of Dale or the various Queens in Flash Gordon.
