Collects #7-12, 1952-53. Recommended. Art by Harry Harrison, A.C. Hollingsworth, Hy Fleishman, Doug Wildey et al. Some of the weirdest and most esoteric stories and covers of the time. Skeletons, anyone? They loved them on every cover. And busty, Wally Wood-ish ladies--on the covers and inside, too. Dismemberment, hypo blood drainage, cannibalism, witch burning, severed heads...even a horror witch hostess clearly stolen from EC. And that's all noted in Overstreet! As shown on the cover here, artist Hy Fleishman was obviously influenced by Wood and he has plenty here. Also so does Hollingsworth, also a Woody clone.

This is one of the more wacked-out titles of the pre-code, from a tiny publisher, Master/Merit, who knew they had to do their utmost to stand out in the pack.

Stories include "Don't Marry a Dead One," a racing car story--I always like these--called "Death Driver," "Medusa," where the fabled temptress lures a shirtless guy right into her bed! "Sea of Ghosts," "A Vamapire is Born," "River of Blood," another hot car thriller, "Terror of the Hot Rod," and "Voices of the Dead."

And finally :"Best Seller," a really grusome tale. An unsuccessful writer makes a bargain with the sinister Dr. Wong, after he loses his girlfriend to a rival writer. Then the murders start, first the rival, then Dr. Wong, then, well, Dr. Wong comes back and figures he deserves half of what our writer gained. Which includes half of his girl friend. Aughh! "Most shocking crime I've ever seen," says a cop in the last panel.

This is one of those offbeat titles that now are highly collected, since they sold less than the better known comics, probably given that it had lesser newstand exposure.

From the publishers: "You could be forgiven for thinking, hey, they must have run out, right? They must have exhausted all the good stuff by now with the ACG titles pretty near gone, along with Planet, Jet Power, all the Harvey titles, Tom Corbett, The Heap, Rulah, Strange Suspense, and who knows what else. Yeah, you'd think so, but check this out!"
